first_imgNoted social worker Sindhutai Sapkal spoke out against the #MeToo movement on the sidelines of a function in Ahmednagar district on Monday.Dr. Sapkal said that the women who made allegations of sexual misconduct ought to have spoken out at the time of the incident instead of raking up the past now. She expressed concern that unverified accusations could damage the reputations and careers of innocent people.Dr. Sapkal said, “Why are the accusers suddenly raising their voices now about the allegedly shameful incidents that occurred to them 10 or 15 years ago? They should have spoken out about the injustices against them the moment the incidents took place.”The septuagenarian social worker, who is known as the ‘Mother of Orphans’, has adopted more than 1,000 orphaned children in the State. Last year, the Pune-based activist was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar for her tireless work for the welfare of orphans.She said, “If the accusers are daughters, sisters and wives of somebody then so are the men who happen to be someone’s son, brother or husband.”last_img
